Creation Station at OSLC - Something New!
Creation Station Description
The purpose of the Creation Station is to help young people
fully participate in the worship service in developmentally appropriate
ways. During the sermon time, children
will make their way to Deese Chapel where they will draw, color, write, cut,
paste, scribble, and solve puzzles that help to articulate the Gospel Themes
that were articulated in the Children’s Sermon.
Afterwards, they will present their creations as an offering to God by placing them at the foot of the Altar during the Hymn of the Day.
How to accompany
children at the Creation Station:
1.
Welcome kids to the Creation Station after the
Children’s Message in Deese Chapel.
2.
Move around the Creation Station, asking
questions about what kids are working on and affirming their creativity.
3.
At about the 10 minute mark, inform the group
that it is time to put the finishing touches on their creations and that it is
time to begin the clean-up process.
4.
Ask children to line up in a single file line at
the door once you hear the Hymn of the Day is playing (follows the Pastor’s
Sermon).
5.
Lead the children down the center aisle and
guide them up the steps to the foot of the altar. Ask them to place their gifts that they made
during the Creation Station at the foot of the altar.
6. Assist any children that need help returning to
their parents/ family in the pews.
Things to Remember:
·
Kids may need occasional reminders to work
nicely with one another, and to share supplies.
·
Some of the children may need some extra
encouragement or guidance. Feel free to
offer suggestions of things they can work on.
·
If you don’t want to walk with the kids to the
front, select one of the older kids to be the “line leader”
·
Not all kids are eager to offer their creation.
Do your best to encourage them to share what they've created, but don’t force,
shame, or guilt them into it.
·
Children can make as many creations as they want
to in the 10-15 minute time period.
After they choose one as an offering, then they can keep any of the
others.
·
Creations may be picked up after the service if children want to keep them.
... but to make this happen...
